This month we are pleased to announce our partnership with leading men’s health organisation, Prostate Cancer UK. Our partnership will look to support and inform you, our PlayMoreGolf’s member community, who’s core demographic includes those most frequently affected by the disease (men over the age of 50, black men over 45 and those with a family history of the illness), as well as help raise money to beat the disease.
The work of Prostate Cancer UK spreads across the sporting landscape, with their iconic ‘Man of Men’ pin badge sported by football managers and TV personalities. our mutual relationship will look to further Prostate Cancer UK’s work with golf clubs across the UK, and make their iconic logo as well known in golf, building on the charity’s work with the PGA and their members, elite player Danny Willett, golf YouTubers, and club captains across the UK.
Prostate cancer kills one man every 45 minutes, the same time on average that it takes to play three holes of golf. The disease is the most common cancer among men, with the disease often not showing any early symptoms, and with currently no national screening programme.
Matt Holdstock, Sport Engagement Manager at Prostate Cancer UK explains the importance of these types of partnerships; “Prostate cancer exists in every golf club. Our aim is to make sure Prostate Cancer UK is in every golf club to get our message out there. This exciting partnership with PlayMoreGolf will ensure more golfers understand their own risk of prostate cancer, know how to take action on their health and provide a way for their members to raise money to beat the disease too.”
The partnership will allow and encourage our members to get involved straight away and help to start raise awareness of the disease effecting a significant proportion of the golfing community:
Commenting on the announcement of the partnership, Jamie Carroll, Director of PlayMoreGolf said: “We are delighted to forge this relationship with Prostate Cancer UK. This terrible disease affects so many men every year, many of whom fall within the demographics of our members, making this partnership even more important.
“Over the coming weeks and months as we get back to normality on and off the golf course, we’ll be talking more about our plans with Prostate Cancer UK, from ensuring our members are fully aware of the risks of the disease and introducing some of their fundraising activities. ‘The Big Golf Race’ will kick off our fundraising this summer, and we will show members how they can directly contribute at renewal time too. We are honoured to be partnered with this brilliant organisation and look forward to help spreading their incredibly important message.”

About prostate cancer
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men – and now the most commonly diagnosed of all cancers in the UK.
More than 11,500 men die from prostate cancer in the UK each year – that's one man every 45 minutes.
1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. This raises to 1 in 4 for black men.
Around 400,000 men are living with and after prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer mainly affects men over 50 and the risk increases with age. But the risk is higher for black men or men with a family history of prostate cancer, so they may wish to speak to their GP from age 45. A 30-second online risk checker is available at prostatecanceruk.org/risk-checker
Prostate cancer often has no symptoms so men shouldn’t wait to see changes before they act.
Anyone with concerns about prostate cancer may contact Prostate Cancer UK's Specialist Nurses in confidence on 0800 074 8383 or online via the Live Chat instant messaging service: prostatecanceruk.org. About Prostate Cancer UK’s work in golf
Prostate cancer exists in every golf club in the UK. Prostate Cancer UK aims to make sure every golf club, society and golfer in the UK understands their risk of prostate cancer and knows how they can get involved in support a cause fighting the most common cancer in men.
Former Masters champion Danny Willett supports Prostate Cancer UK and sports the charity’s logo on his bag. He was inspired to get involved after hearing of the tireless fundraising of fellow Yorkshireman John Brownless, Danny chose Prostate Cancer UK as his charity when hosting the British Masters in May.
Prostate Cancer UK’s footprint in golf has also included work with the European Senior Tour including the Prostate Cancer UK Scottish Senior Open. That led to high-profile backing from legendary names such as Sam Torrance and Ian Woosnam.
Prostate Cancer UK has also teamed up with the PGA, HowDidiDo, Bunkered, Golf Monthly and a number of YouTube stars to reach golfers at risk of prostate cancer and raise money to fund vital research to save men’s lives.
The charity have also launched their new Big Golf Race, challenging supporters to play four or two rounds in a day.
