Starting today we have the Women’s Amundi Evian Championship, and we are looking at our top 5 contenders for the event. Now saying that, when looking at our previous predictions for the KPMG Women’s PGA Championships last month you will see how far off we were. Two of our top 5 didn’t make the cut and only one, Jennifer Kupcho who finished T16 placed in the top 40. Now saying that we think with the predictions below we are onto a winner, with our top 5 contenders being:
Minjee Lee
Women’s US Open Champion and PGA Championship runner up, finishing behind South Korean In-Gee Chun, Minjee Lee has been one of the most consistent players at major championships. Lee who has the best scoring average for any female golfer has proven she should be a contender hence appearing in our top 5. Can she continue her good form and win?
Nelly Korda
The world number 3, 2021 PGA Championship runner up has been one of the most consistent performers on tour this year and will be hoping to continue her good form after shooting a -10 (60) last week at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational. When you look at her performance stats for this year one noticeable difference from the previous one is her ranking for birdies and eagles. In 2021 she appeared in the top 10 for both, but currently sitting at 102 for birdies and 16 for Eagles. Even with this stat against her she is performing exceptionally well and we feel she will be appearing in the top 5.
Jin-Young Ko
A winner at the start of the season when she claimed the HSBC Women's World Championship. After a mid-season blip she is back to somewhere near her best and could finish well here on a course that suits her game. Out of the top 3 ranked players Minjee, Korda and Jin-Young for me, Ko would be a surprise winner, but she really has the game to do well when performing at her very best.
Leona Maguire
Another early season winner, Leona’s mid season form has been patchy at best. Crisis was averted this week as she appealed for help on social media due to her golf clubs going missing at Dublin Airport, but after them being returned to her she is raring to go in search of her first Major Championship. The 27-year-old who is currently ranked 19 in the Rolex Ranking will have the desire to perform well after finishing T54 at the last major. We really feel if there is a shock winner, it will be Leona.
Charley Hull
Teeing off today at 12:51 Charlie has bags of potential and all the talent in the world, we desperately want Charlie to claim her first Major and this could be her week. Our outside bet the 26-year-old who is currently ranked 38 shows when she plays her best she has some real talent. In 2021 Charley was the number one player with the most eagles, this year she hasn’t had any. Showing a real contrast between years. That being said we really feel Charley Hull would be a great outside bet and let’s hope we are right.
