Disability in golf, how you can help in 2023

As the new year approaches, many of us are thinking about our resolutions and goals for the upcoming year. One resolution that can have a lasting impact on both us and our communities is volunteering. Have you considered volunteering while doing something you enjoy and volunteer for the England and Wales Blind Golf? They are an organisation who provide visually impaired individuals the opportunity to train and compete in the game of golf whether as a beginner or a seasoned golfer.

Blind golfer’s can be visually impaired or blind, but still enjoy the game. While the sport may present some challenges for these individuals, they are able to adapt and continue playing with the help of volunteers who serve as their "eyes" on the course.

As a volunteer, you can help a blind golfer by serving as their guide and providing verbal descriptions of their surroundings. This can include the layout of the course, the position of their ball, and any potential obstacles they may need to navigate. In addition to providing visual information, volunteers can also assist with club selection and shot alignment. This can help the golfer improve their accuracy and enjoyment of the game.

If you are interested in volunteering to help blind golfers, there are a few ways you can get involved. Many golf courses and organizations offer programs for blind golfers and may be in need of volunteers. We would recommend if it were something of interest why not visit the England & Wales Blind Golf website to see if you can volunteer in your local area. Or if you would like a bit more information why not also visit the BBC Website which show a tournament the England & Wales Blind Golf Club staged in Worcestershire back in April.

In 2023, consider making a difference in the life of a blind golfer by volunteering your time and providing support on the course. Not only will you be helping someone enjoy a beloved sport, but you will also gain a unique and rewarding experience.
