Half of members play golf a week after restrictions lift in England

Here at PlayMoreGolf we have been working hard in preparation for all course in the UK to be able to accept visitors and allowing the 2021 Golf Season to really begin.

For many this latest lockdown has been challenging with many realising how much outdoor activities, especially golf improves their wellbeing. With this we were pleased to see that over half of our golfers choosing to join one of our clubs as a flexible PlayMoreGolf Member played or booked at least one round in the first week since restrictions lifted in England.

With golf being one of the sports where social distancing is easier that others, it is not surprising to witness a 350% increase in new members to our platform between the first and last week of March, as golfers prepared for the 2021 season. Not only are we pleased to be able to support our clubs by generating additional upfront revenue for them, but seeing more people playing golf is a great thing to see for 2021.

Many full club members will be coming up for renewal and those who could normally afford their golf membership may be struggling with a challenging economy putting a strain on their finances. From job losses and millions of workers being placed on furlough leave, retention rates of ‘traditional’ memberships have been a concern for clubs up and down the country and having a PlayMoreGolf category allows members to still support their club and continue to play golf.

PlayMoreGolf’s flexible membership recognises the demands of modern lifestyles. Our app-based offering provides a viable alternative that works in harmony with the frantic timetables of the modern family and is enabling more golfers to find their passion for the game.

Alastair Sinclair, CEO, PlayMoreGolf, said: "It has been magnificent to see thousands of PlayMoreGolf members returning to the course in the first week since restrictions lifted in England. The last 12 months have been physically, emotionally and mentally draining for everyone and we hope that access to golf can relieve some of these pressures.

“2021 is an important year for Golf, as a sport and leisure activity especially when it comes to appealing to a wider audience. I hope our new members look forward to visiting our clubs, which have gone above and beyond to ensure they can accommodate the most players in a safe and secure environment.”
